Hyderabad: Musi river overflows, halts traffic on Bhongir road

Musi originates from the Anantagiri Hills near Vikarabad and after a circuitous route through Hyderabad, flows into the Krishna river.

Hyderabad: Due to heavy rains on Tuesday, the Musi river overflowed in the city’s outskirts. There were frequent traffic jams on the Bhongir highway as floodwaters inundated the road. The usually narrow stream resembled a full-fledged river on Tuesday. The last time it was in spate was in 2013.

Sources said that the river was in spate on Tuesday morning for three hours, along its course between Pochampally and Bibinagar mandals. Traffic jams were reported in areas like Maqdumpalli, Battugudem, Pedda Ravulapalli and Maktaanantaram.

Musi originates from the Anantagiri Hills near Vikarabad and after a circuitous route through Hyderabad, flows into the Krishna river. In the city it flows through Purana Pul, Chaderghat, Dabirpura, Amberpet and Uppal.

According to reports, on August 28, 1830, Musi was in spate and the road below the ramparts of the city were submerged.
