Encourage cricket for disabled like regular teams, AIMIM tells government
KARIMNAGAR: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen on Monday demanded that the government encourage the disabled cricket team like regular teams and support disabled players so that they can get name and fame for the state.
The demand was made at an event where the AIMIM felicitated Mohammad Farooq, captain of the Telangana cricket team of the disabled. Syed Gulam Ahmed Hussain, MIM Karimnagar party unit president, handed over to Farooq cheque for Rs 10,000 . Farooq had led the Telangana team to the runner-up spot in the national-level cricket tournament organised by Divyang Cricket Control Board of India at Alwar in Rajasthan.
The MIM leader said even though there was no support from the state government for Farooq, a native of Karimnagar, the captain of cricket team for sabled brought name and fame for Telangana.
He demanded that at least now, the government must announce rewards for players of the cricket team for disabled.
Gulam Ahmed Hussain assured that he will take up the issue to notice of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and vice-chairman of State Planning Commission B. Vinod Kumar.
MIM leaders Shakeer Al Nahid and Ayub Bhajamal were among those present at the function.
