Chennai rhythm festival to showcase margams in complex talas
CHENNAI: Chaturvidham, a three-day festival of rhythm bringing out four creative and complete Bharatanatyam margams created, composed and choreographed by Madurai R. Muralidaran in 4 complex Talas (Sankeerna jathi truputa talam, Misra jathi jhumpa, Chathusra jathi ata and Sankeerna dhruva talam), will be held at the Krishna Gana Sabha from March 30 to April 1.
Muralidharan will attempt to create a Guinness Record on April 1, by teaching jatis and alarippu to the largest number of students (1,000) in the longest Sankeerna Dhruva Tala.
The compositions have embedded in them the life of mystical and divine themes. Four young dancers - Ananya Sangeetha Nagarjunan (on March 30, at 6.30 pm), Rubika Sri Rajasekaran (March 31, 6.30 pm), Megha Kumaran (on April 1 at 4.30 pm) and Kavya Muralidharan (April 1, at 6.30 pm) will present Margams in four complex talas composed by Muralidharan, and supported by his wife Chitra and sister Manimekalai.
Says Mother of Ananya Sangeetha Nagarjunan, Mrs. Sangeetha Nagarjunan, “Chaturvidham means four dimensions in Sanskrit. Tala is the heart of any margam composition in Bharatanatyam. Mr. Muralidharan has already created complete Margams in 35 unique Talas over a decade and 11 of them have been presented and staged across India by his students. The talams he has composed are most complex having close to 29 aksharas. This time because of nature of complexity and kind of task it has involved, sir decided to get it together through Chaturvidham, which has been his dream.”
“The vital dimension is he is trying to create most complex talas with 29 aksharas and each is different from the other,” Mrs. Sangeetha from Team Chaturvidham, added.
An entry fee of Rs 1,000 will be charged per participant to the workshop on April 1 to be held at The Bharath Kalachar, PSBB, T Nagar. Entry is free for the dance recitals. Nrithyakshetra Dance Academy of Madurai Muralidharan is presenting the ‘ChaturvidhaM.’ For details contact 8939629123.
