Now, Kollam too to get Pink Patrol protection
CM inaugurates services Tuesday.

KOLLAM: In an effort to curb atrocities on women and children, Kollam city has got the pink patrol following its successful implementation in the cities of Kozhikkode, Ernakulam, and Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the patrol consisting of two patrol vehicles and a control room, at Kollam beach on Tuesday. The pink patrol will have an all-women staff including the driver of the vehicle. The patrol vehicle is equipped with surveillance cameras and tablets for effective implementation of the pink force which mainly focuses on tracking eve-teasers.
The control room functions on the basis of calls registered on the central server, which in turn alerts the nearest patrol vehicle by tracking its position through GPS. The details of the complaint will be communicated through tablets installed in the vehicle. The toll-free number is 1515. The pink police control room functions in the Kollam city police control room. Regular patrolling will be conducted by the team in areas including schools, colleges, women’s hostels, and other vulnerable spots. The other major duty of the patrol is to collect information to curb the use of drugs in educational institutions. A team including a women SI and 11 women civil police officers function under the pink patrol in Kollam city.
