Hyderabad: Tech council team checks out Kukatpally campus of the JNTU

According to senior professors, this was the first AICTE inspection in more than a decade.

Hyderabad: Officials of the All India Council for Technical Education conducted a surprise inspection of the Kukatpally campus of the JNTU on Tuesday.

The three-member team went around classrooms of different engineering departments, checked facilities in laboratories and hostels. It also interacted with students and staff members.

The AICTE members checked records relating to teaching and non-teaching faculty and their salaries at the administration office. The team checked out placement of students in the last few years.

JNTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Venugopal Reddy said the AICTE wanted the university to build toilets keeping in mind the requirements of physically challenged students.

According to senior professors, this was the first AICTE inspection in more than a decade. The last time an AICTE team inspected the JNTU was when the MBA course was introduced.

Speculation is that the AICTE undertook the inspections following the outcry by private colleges that JNTU, which was insisting that the colleges adhere to norms, had shortcomings itself.
