Chennai: A 135-feet high modern communications tower, the first of its kind in the country, has just become operational at the Chennai airport, providing uninterrupted, secure seamless connectivity to members of the various aviation and security agencies, besides the ground staff of airlines and other departments.
The digital communication system, costing Rs 10 crore, replaces the old analog airwaves system with the advanced trunked radio services and would have a reach of 6 kilometers radius, thus covering all the various agencies and departments working in the airport premises.
Since eavesdropping of the conversations made through the devices connected by the communication system was impossible, the new facility adds to aviation security and will also enhance performance in managing takeoffs and landings in the airport with more efficiency.
The system also comes with an inherent feature enabling the users of the communication equipment to record conversations easily.
