e-Chhawani lets down Cantonment residents keen on online bill payments

Problems erupt after Centre scraps SCB portal

Hyderabad: Lack of awareness among residents in SCB limits about the recently launched e-Chhawani portal is leading to inconvenience when they are trying to make bill payments online.

The Centre introduced the portal and a mobile app to provide online civic services to residents of 62 cantonment boards in the country.

Several residents, who use the SCB portal for making payments, are finding problems in paying property tax online. The SCB portal has been scrapped and the online services are now being extended through e-Chhawani.

“Every year I used to pay my house tax online through the SCB website. When I tried the same method this year, I noticed that the portal had developed technical glitches,” said Raghava Rao, a resident of Trimulgherry.

Meanwhile, many like him, in their desperation, are rushing to the SCB office to seek help.

Many technophobic residents are finding it difficult attempting to register in the new portal. A senior citizen, who did not wish to be named, said the authorities could have informed about the new portal in the alert messages rather than sending reminder messages about tax dues.
