Quality healthcare law from January 1
Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2018, which mandates registration and regulation of all public and private clinical establishments rendering inpatient services under all recognised systems of medicine, will come into effect on January 1.
The Act empowers the government to monitor, assess and regulate all clinical establishments, aiming at ensuring quality health care. It makes registration and regulation for all systems of medicine – modern medicine, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Siddha and Unani –including dental, laboratories and diagnostic imaging centres mandatory.
All clinical establishments must register under the District Registration Authority. Registration, verification, approval, rejection and cancellation will be web-based.
A 22-member multi-stakeholder body with health secretary as chairperson will classify them under different categories and specify minimum standards and review them periodically. The state will impose a penalty on clinical establishments operating without registration.
