Indian Union Muslim League, RSP, KC (Jacob) agree Opposition has been lax

Muslim League leader E. T. Mohammed Basheer flayed the UDF for failing to address the people's problems.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala is facing flak from the UDF allies for his lacklustre performance in highlighting the failures of the LDF government. Close on the heels of Mr K. Muraleedharan’s open attack against the UDF inaction, its partners, the Muslim League, RSP and KC (Jacob) too have sounded alarm bells over the shape of things to come. However, former chief minister Oommen Chandy has been keeping an enigmatic silence over the gathering storm within the Congress and the front that has discomfited his rival Chennithala.

KC (J) chairman Johnny Nellore said that the Opposition could not do anything though the people had been denied ration rice and sugar since October. Muslim League leader E. T. Mohammed Basheer flayed the UDF for failing to address the people’s problems. “The UDF conducts only meetings and has not succeeded in highlighting the administrative lapses of the LDF government,” said Mr Basheer. League general secretary K. P. A. Majeed stated that Mr Muraleedharan’s allegations were an internal matter of the Congress.

The issue would be discussed at the UDF meeting on January 3. Mr P. K. Kunhalikutty, however, complimented Mr Chennithala for his role as Opposition Leader. “Criticisms are natural. The UDF could have bettered its performance as a pro-active Opposition. However, Chennithala’s role as Opposition Leader during the last six months was commendable,” said Mr Kunhalikutty. RSP state secretary A.A. Aziz urged the UDF to go all-out against the government.
