39 hurt in bus mishap at Vennakkod

Students from Govt College Attingal hurt in accident.

KOZHIKODE: Thirty-nine students from Government College, Attingal, were injured after their tourist bus turned topsy-turvy in Vennakkod, near Koduvally, early Tuesday. Seriously wounded Gopika (20) and Shyamili (20) were admitted to Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, along with 16 others while the rest received treatment at a private hospital in Koduvally.

The fire and rescue services from Mukkom and Narikkuni reached the spot, and the two were taken out after cutting their seats with a hydraulic machine. They also had to axe the back side of the bus to take out the passengers. The rescue team said the driver might have lost control while negotiating a sharp curve while the driver said he was trying to give way to a lorry coming from the opposite direction. The students were returning from Mysuru.
