THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of allegations of fake encounter killing in Nilambur forests, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has ordered a probe by Perinthalmanna sub-collector. The sub-collector, who has magisterial powers, has been directed to carry out a comprehensive inquiry and submit a report, the chief minister's office said. According to sources, the widespread allegations and criticisms against the police action, even from within the LDF, had prompted the chief minister to order a magisterial probe.
CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran had raised reservations over the killing. Meanwhile, probe into the case registered in connection with the encounter killing will be carried out under the direct supervision of crime branch IG Balram Kumar Upadhyaya. The probe, ordered as per earlier directives of the Supreme Court on all encounter killings, was entrusted with crime branch SP S. Sasidharan.
