Iranian food festival is a big draw

In order to keep alive the food culture of Hyderabad, an Irani food fest is underway in the city

HYDERABAD: ‘Irani-Chai ka Cheska’ is integral to the typical Hyderabadi lifestyle. The love for Irani chai and Irani delicacies is evidenced by the number of Irani hotels in the twin cities. In order to keep alive the food culture of Hyderabad, an Irani food fest is underway here.

According to the Iranian consulate, there are more than 2,000 Iranian families in the city. In order to make this bonding stronger, the consulate along with CD Foundation launched an international food festival at Madhapur, where Irani dishes will be the order of the day.

To bring in authentic flavor, celebrated chef Mona Poordaryaei has been flown in for the fest. The mouth-watering delicacies include ‘Jooji Kabab’, ‘Saffron Naan’. Kermani roti’, ‘Ghotme Sabzi’, and Keshike-bademjan’ with the flower and saffron sharbat taking the spotlight.

Poordaryaei said “there are a lot of similarities in Hyderabad and Iran cuisine. Most of the spices and dry fruits which are used in the kitchens are from Iran. People of Hyderabad are friendly and do not hesitate to teach their skills.”

Mina Hadian, Vice-Consul of Iran, said “tourists from prefer to visit Hyderabad. However, as there are no direct flights from Irian to Hyderabad, most of them, including students, are opting for Delhi.”

Charu Das of CD Foundation, said, “Such events will help build bilateral relations. This food festival not only gives a delightful meal but also helps in accessing external trade.”

Dibya Ranjan Bhol of Trident said “it was amazing to see the foreign chef using flowers and spices in her food. The food is so delicious that you will never get bored.”
