Notice issued to seven hotels in Kottayam

The raids were prompted by complaints received by municipality health standing committee chairman Sheena Punnen.

Kottayam: Health safety officials conducted raids at seven hotels in Kottayam town on Thursday morning and seized stale food items including cooked rice and tapioca and issued notices to the hotels. The raids were carried out at two hotels at Kanjikuzhy and five hotels at Kottayam railway station including at Zam Zam and Remya hotels( Kanjikuzhy), and Anjaly, Viswas, Immanual, Arya Samrat and Kerala restaurant hotels at the railway station road.

The raids were prompted by complaints received by municipality health standing committee chairman Sheena Punnen. Atley John, the health inspector, who conducted the raid told DC that he found that among the employees at the hotels, most did not have health cards and hygiene was lacking. Notices have been issued to these hotels to carry out improvements, he added.
