Narendra Modi enforces Hindutva, says VS Achuthanandan

VS inaugurated the function to mark the 70th anniversary of historic Punnapra- Vayalar uprising.

Alappuzha: Veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan has come down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi whom he said has ended up a mere follower of the RSS and that Mr Modi was trying to enforce Hindutva ideology on the country. Inaugurating the function to mark the 70th anniversary of the historic Punnapra –Vayalar uprising against the Travancore royalty and the British Raj at Vayalar in Alappuzha, Mr Achuthandan said the rule by the National Democratic Alliance has neglected the needs of the Dalits, Adivasis and other backward communities. “Only the Communist parties can ensure the uplift of the downtrodden,” he said.

CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who also spoke, said that the RSS is the Indian version of the dreaded terrorist organisation Islamic State. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran, CPI national executive member Panniyan Raveendran, ministers T.M. Thomas Issac, G. Sudhakaran and V.S. Sunilkumar and leaders of the CPM and the CPI participated in the function. Earlier, Mr Achuthnandan handed over the torch for the rally organized to mark the culmination of the week-long programmes while participant of the uprising K.V. Thankappan inaugurated the torch lamp procession at Menassery.
