Kerala not to impose UAPA, says CM Pinarayi Vijayan
The chief minister said that he would inquire whether a case was registered violating the state policy.
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that it was not the policy of the State government to impose Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on people in cases registered by the Kerala Police. Replying to the discussion on the appropriation bill in the assembly on Thursday, the chief minister said Union government has mandated imposition of UAPA on persons who belonged to a notified terrorist organisation.
“Such cases are usually investigated by the National Investigation Agency,” he told IUML leader P.K. Kunhalikutty who pointed out that a person was slapped with UAPA for making a speech. The chief minister said that he would inquire whether a case was register-ed violating the state policy.
