Body parts found in Malabar Medical College
KOZHIKODE: The presence of body parts on the premises of the medical college here led to chaos on Thursday, as the locals were suspicious that it was a mysterious death. It later turned out that the laxity of the college authorities in properly disposing of the cadaver waste after dissection, led to it being dug out by animals, after they were buried almost two weeks ago. There was a protest by locals and bystanders of the patients at Malabar Medical College, Modakkallur, after parts of the limbs and head were dragged out allegedly by animals.
They suspected a mysterious death which led to the police arriving. The forensic team collected the parts and took them to Government Medical college hospital, Kozhikode. Thamarassery DySP K. Ashraf said that improper waste management led to the confusion and there was nothing mysterious about the incident. “Since morpholine was applied, the body parts had not decayed. The waste was not properly treated and dumped without digging a deep pit,” said Mr Ashraf. The hospital management said that they had entrusted the work to a local agency but said they were ready to cooperate with any investigation. The police registered a case of unnatural death.
