Balapur Ganesh Laddu Auctioned For Record Price, Deets Inside

HYDERABAD: The most awaited event of the Ganesh festivities in the city, especially on the day of immersion, is the auction of Balapur laddu. This year marks a significant milestone for the event, which is beamed live across regional channels, as it turned 30 years since making its debut in 1994 when one Kolam Mohan Reddy secured the prized catch for Rs 450.

This year the honour was grabbed by Dasari Dayanad Reddy from Turkayamjal, who made the winning bid of Rs 27 lakh from among 36 persons in the fray.

Last year, the laddu went for Rs 24.60 lakh to realtor Vangeti Laxma Reddy, who mentioned later that his fortunes improved after the laddu “came to my house.”

The bidding touched seven digits in 2002 when Kondade Madhav paid Rs 1,05,000.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the organizsrs decided against conducting the auction. The Balapur laddu was gifted to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Dayanad Reddy told Deccan Chronicle: “I took part in the auction last year also. I am on a high as are my family members. I will be distributing this laddu to our Turkayamjal people on October 2, commemorating Gandhi Jayanti.”

He added, “I have been the highest bidder for laddu at Turkayamjal for the last 10 years. This is bringing prosperity to my real estate ventures.”

In fact, it is this ‘prosperity’ sentiment that has accelerated participation in the Balapur laddu auction.
