Tirupati: The three-day temple purification ritual, Pavitrotsavams, commenced on a traditional note at the Sri Padmavati Ammavari temple in Tiruchanoor here on Wednesday.
Pavitrotsavam is an annual festival observed to ward off the ill effects of any lapses committed by either the Archakas or devotees during the year-long activities in the temple.
On the first day of the festival, the utsava idols were seated in the Yagashala for Dhwaja Thorana, Dhwaja Kumbhaavahanam, Chakradhimandala Puja, Chatusthanarchana, Agni Pratista, and Pavitra Pratista. In the afternoon, the utsava idols were given Snapana Tirumanjanam and Abhishekam with scented water, sandalwood paste, coconut water, curd, and honey.
The temple authorities have canceled Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, and Astadala Pada Padmaradhana regarding this festival.
Meanwhile, the Pavitrotsavams event concluded with the Purnahuti fete in Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati on Wednesday. The rituals began with Suprabhatam followed by Sahasra Namarchana and culminated with Purnahuti.
The processional deities were later taken to Yagashala, and special Aradhana and Homams were performed before conducting Maha Purnahuti. Shanti Homam, Pavitra Visarjanam, Kumbha Prokshana, and Nivedana were also performed before offering Teertham to devotees who took part in the fete.
