Treaty relook India's right: General V K Singh
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: India has every right to have a relook at the Indus water treaty, Gen V. K. Singh, the minister of state for external affairs, reiterated on Tuesday. "I have nothing more to say than the Prime Minister’s statement that blood and water cannot flow together,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an inspection at the regional passport office here. On Pakistan’s plans to approach the International Court of Justice on the treaty, he said, “We will cross the bridge when we come to it.”
Reacting to Congress’s criticisms on external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s speech in the UN General Assembly, he asked whether that party expected the minister to take out a sword at the UN meet. “I really don’t know what the Congress expected. Did they want her to take out a sword there? Had they done it earlier?” he asked. He said the entire world realises that Pakistan is the epicentre of terrorism.
“Sushma Swaraj told the world that we extended our hand of friendship to Pakistan, but got terrorism in return. The states sponsoring terrorism must be isolated. I am sure that the world will listen to it,” the junior minister said. He also said Pakistan had no local stand on Kashmir. “It will be better if Pakistan introspect on what they are doing,” he said.
