Chennai: “We are always prepared to meet unexpected things,” said Air Marshal Pankaj Aneja, AOC-In-C Maintenance Command on the rising unease between India and Pakistan on Tuesday, during his maiden visit to Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF) at Avadi.

After learning about the factory’s production activities, he spoke to the media about the missing aircraft AN-32 and the preparedness of the defence base to tackle eventualities.

When asked about the status of missing AN-32, Aneja said investigations have not pinpointed anything on poor maintenance, adding that the investigations are not yet completed.

Indian Army, as part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative has recently launched Army Design Bureau (ADB) – to procure military requirements from private bodies. Assuring that the move would not affect the business of government bodies, Aneja said, “It is in fact a good step as it creates competence and facilitate for quality production. As they will have to participate in open market and get same quality product, quality will rather stand up.”

Aneja took a tour of OCF to inspect the product exhibit room, production facilities and quality control lab. Dr Rajib Chakraborty, general manager, was also present.
