Probe into fake threat against PM Modi

Nadakkavu police station received the call around 2.30 a.m. on Saturday

KOZHIKODE: The police are investigating a threat call that reportedly came from an internet phone warning of a blast at the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the public here on Saturday. The fake call, suspected to have been made from a Gulf country, was received at Nadakkavu police station around 2.30 a.m. on Saturday throwing the police and intelligence agencies into a tizzy.

However, Nadakkavu CI T.K. Ashraf said that no breakthrough had been made in the case and that they were still investigating. Mr Modi was here to attend the BJP national council meeting on Saturday and Sunday. Following the bomb threat, security arrangements at all the venues were tightened and the SPG had even rearranged the stage at Swapnanagari at the eleventh hour.

The routes of the vehicles for the Prime Minister were also changed several times, said the police. The bomb squad checked the venues and security officials were often changed. The police said that since the call was made through internet, it was not easy to trace it, but the cyber cell is also trying to locate it. There are unconfirmed reports that the person had been traced and that steps were being taken to bring him to Kozhikode. However, the police did not confirm the rumours.
