No change in agreement with self financing colleges, says Pinarayi Vijayan

THIRUVANANTHAPUAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that there was no scope for any alteration in the agreements made with self-financing medical college managements. Replying to an adjournment motion, he said that the government would take stern action if any instances of self-financing colleges collecting undue fees like capitation or deposits were reported.

“At the present stage, a rollback of the agreement with self-financing managements is not possible. It is owing to the government's stern interventions that all the demands of the management were not allowed. The government is awaiting the Supreme Court decision in a case on the matter,” he said.

The Opposition asked the government to set a model by reducing the fees at the Pariyaram Medical College which is run by the CPM-controlled cooperative society. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the government was making the Justice James committee a mute spectator of the irregularities in the sector. There were even reports that the government may sack Justice James, he alleged.
