Congress questions R Sukesan's credibility
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress leaders have questioned the credibility of Vigilance SP R. Sukesan who has alleged that former Vigilance director Shankar Reddy had tried to sabotage the bar bribery case by tampering with the case diary. They also did not defend former finance minister K.M. Mani saying he should prove his innocence in the scam. KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala demanded that Mr Sukesan should not be entrusted with the further probe into the scam.
Former chief minister Oommen Chandy also disowned Mr Sukesan. The Congress leaders have maintained from the beginning that there was politics involved in further investigating the scam. Sources told DC that Mr Chennithala and Mr Chandy were apprehensive of the KC (M) leaders’ charges about their involvement in the scam and fear they would be dragged into the case.
Mr Sudheeran told reporters here that the credibility of Mr Sukesan who probed the bar case had been lost. He said the further probe into the case should not be entrusted to him. “The law will take its course. Sukesan had retracted his statements many times. He should not be asked to probe the case again. The public should be convinced of the probe which should be fair and beyond political interests,” he said.
