Bengaluru lawyers boycott courts proceedings
Bengaluru: The Advocates' Association Bengaluru (AAB) and several advocates' bodies across the state abstained from court proceedings on Saturday, seeking action over the recent incident of police highhandedness at the Channarayapatna court complex and transfer of District Judge R.J. Satish Singh.
The protest was against the recent high drama witnessed at the Channarayapatna court. JMFC Court Judge M S Shashikala had ordered for the judicial custody of Chikkanayakanahalli police Inspector Marappa, after he ignored court summons and failed to appear before the court regarding criminal cases registered during his tenure.
The advocates alleged that the police officer defied court order and later in presence of other policemen parked the police jeep across the court complex gate, obstructing the judge from leaving the premises. In addition, the District Judge later in the night stayed the lower court’s order remanding the police officer in judicial custody.
The AAB stated that “Defying the court order and later obstructing the movement of the judge, along with shouting slogans against the judge, has never happened in the history. If police behaves like this with a judge, we cannot imagine how they can act while dealing with general public. The police officer and his associate policemen should be immediately be suspended. Further, the District Judge be transferred immediately.”
