Hyderabad: A Jagtial resident has built a multipurpose cot for elders and the bed-ridden, which has an attached commode, flush and wash basin. The commode can be connected to the sewerage line to clear the waste. Mr Alladi Prabhakar said he had built the bed after noticing the problems that elderly persons and those who are confined to bed face, that the difficulty of those attending on them. Mr Prabhakar says the bed can be used by patients to manage themselves without assistance.
Priced at Rs 18,000, Mr Prabhakar says he has sold the beds to hundreds of homes in Chennai and Bengaluru. He is part of Palla Srujana which operates out of Sainikpuri. Mr Prabhakar has studied till Class X, and in his workshop has come out with 12 innovations. He has also developed a self-charging equipment for electric vehicles using wind energy. Electric vehicles take hours for the battery to be charged, because of which there are not many takers.
Mr Prabhakar’s gadget can be put on top of cars and buses and uses energy from the wind. Another innovation is footwear designed for electric linemen to climb poles and work with safety. These are available on e-commerce sites for purchase. Mr Prabhakar showcased his products at the Telangana State Innovation stall at the 26th annual summit of Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA) on Friday. Mr Prabhakar, who doesn’t use terms like incubator or entrepreneur, says, “We work at our workshop and these are the kind of innovations people want. I observe the problems and innovate.” He said he hoped the Telangana State Innovation Cell would provide them more exposure and help to reach out to more families and corporates. “Many families are seeking our product,” he said.
