Join Dalits, Jignesh Mewani tells Left
Kochi: Dalit leader Jignesh Mewani has urged the Left parties to address the complex caste issue and join Dalit organisations in the struggle towards a just society. Speaking at the seminar, 'Forms and resistance of Indian Fascism' organised as a part of K.S Bimal commemoration in Vadakara on Thursday, he ridiculed the development carried out by the Narendra Modi Government. “Bhagat Singh has rightly told that we need to address castism in order to eradicate untouchability. Without touching upon caste, we cannot take a political stand in any issue,” he said.
Mewani alleged that NDA government has set aside 1.5 lakh acres of land for 18 corporate companies and 50,000 acre of it has already handed over. "The Left government in Kerala should seize the illegally occupied land from the hands of companies like Tata and Harrisons and distribute it among the landless. Otherwise, there is no honesty in preaching the love towards the Dalit and downtrodden," he said.
He recounted the vicious attempts of the Gujarat government to stall the handing over of land possession certificates to 300 Dalits in Ahmedabad, even bypassing the court rule. Senior journalist Venkitesh Ramakrishnan, I.V Babu, RMPI leader K.K Rema, Priyesh Kumar among others spoke.
