Kempe Gowda Authority to oversee heritage sites

The minister said six experts on Kempe Gowda would be nominated to the Authority.

BENGALURU: The Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Heritage Sites Preservation and Development Authority Act, 2018, came into effect on Wednesday.

Announcing this here today, revenue minister, R.V. Deshpande, said the Authority would take over sites and places in Bengaluru, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara and Tumakuru districts. These sites would be preserved and developed as tourist destinations, he added.

The state government would earmark funds in the budget for activities to be launched by Kempe Gowda Authority.

Mr Deshpande said Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would head the Authority, while Ramanagara district in-charge minister would be the vice president. The members of the Authority include Kannada and culture minister, Jayamala, himself (revenue minister), Bengaluru Rural MP D K Suresh, Rajya Sabha MPs in Bengaluru and Magadi and Yalahanka MLAs.

The minister said six experts on Kempe Gowda would be nominated to the Authority.
