Two fire mishaps in Hyderabad, no casualties reported

HYDERABAD: Two separate fire incidents took place in the city on Saturday damaging properties worth lakhs of rupees. However, no casualties were reported.

In the first case, a fire broke out at the LED Light House shop on the second floor of the Firdous building in Turup Bazaar in the afternoon. It is said property worth ₹50 lakhs was gutted in the fire.

After fire officials received a call at 1.30 pm, three fire tenders along with 16 firefighters were pressed into service. The entire building was evacuated and firefighters controlled the fire by 3.20 pm.

The fire struck the godown-cum- sales portion of the shop. As firefighters were not able to gain access into the godown due to heavy smoke they had to break down one of the shutters and drilled a hole into another shutter to spray water through the cannon, a fire officer said.

Dense smoke emitting from the electric material dumped in the godown was drained by using a vacuum exhaust machine.

“We received a call at 1.30 pm and reached there by 1.37 pm. Our firefighters managed to reach the third floor and rescued over 30 persons trapped on the third and second floor of the building”, station fire officer (SFO) Praveen Kumar, said.

Around five DRF personnel, firefighters and police personnel barricaded the road and diverted commuters heading from M.J. Market to Koti till the fire was controlled.

In another incident, a massive fire broke out at Salori E-Commerce building in Gandipet at around 10.30 am on the second and third floor of the building gutting property worth lakhs of rupees.

Five fire tenders along with 24 firefighters were engaged for over five hours to douse the blaze. Computers, hardware, laptops and other accessories worth lakhs of rupees were gutted.

“We evacuated the employees from the rear exit safely”, Srinivas Reddy Narsingi, SFO, said. Narsingi police registered a case and are investigating the incident. However, the property loss is yet to be estimated.
