Kozhikode: Alert against jaundice cases

Kozhikode: Following reports of jaundice cases from many places, health authorities have asked people to take precautions.

District medical officer Dr V. Jayasree said most cases spread through food and drinks consumed during functions.

She asked those who develop symptoms to take treatment from the nearby health centre.

Fatigue, abdominal pain, weight loss, vomiting, fever, pale stools and dark urine are some of the symptoms. It can be prevented to a greater extent by drinking boiled water, avoiding wet and rotten food, maintaining hygiene, preventing open urination, confirming the purity of drinking water at events, ensuring clean water for cooking purposes and purifying water resources.

The DMO also requested event managers to inform the health officers before conducting any functions or events.

In addition to this, the food safety department has been asked to conduct timely inspections at eateries and juice shops for quality of food and water used.
