Cusat develops ultrasonic spraying machine
Kochi: A Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) doctorate holder has come out with an ultrasonic spray machine that creates thin film coating at a low cost, that has a variety of applications.
The thin film coating developed by Dr R. Sreekumar who is also a post-doctoral researcher with Kerala State Council for Sciene, Technolgoy and Environment (KSCSTE), has application in the touch screen of smart phones, the surface of solar panels and smart windows that ensure privacy of office rooms.
It has been developed at the Delgado Coating and Technology Solutions that has come up at Maker Village at Kalamassery KINFRA Park after being incubated at CITTIC Incubation Centre of Cusat.
“These spray materials are thin films of electronic semi-conductors, transparent conductive oxides and nano particles. This machine is applicable for coating in biomedical field also including surgical needles and stents. The machine is equipped with programmable logic control system. Its motions are controlled using servo motors which are generally used in industrial application,” said Dr Sreekumar.
Dr Sreekumar says he is elated at being able to commission the machine at DEBEL of DRDO at Bangalore.
He said that he has got several orders for the machine from various institutions and universities. Mentor for his research was Prof N.K. Jayaraj of Department of Physics, Cusat.
