Kochi in beef fest mode

Youth Congress activists marched to the district committee office of the BJP at Pallimukku and burnt Mr Narendra Modi in effigy around 11 a.m.

KOCHI: Kochi city and suburbs witnessed a flurry of beef fests on Saturday with the SFI organising close to 15 fests while the Youth Congress activists staged one in front of the BJP office in the city against the centre’s ban on the sale of cattle for slaughter at animal markets across the country. The fest organised by the SFI Ernakulam area committee in front of Ernakulam Town Hall and participated by students from Government Law College and Maharaja’s College was inaugurated by Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran. CPM district secretary P. Rajeev and SFI district secretary V.M. Junaid also attended it.

Mr Innocent, MP, inaugurated the fest in front of Yathri Nivas at Perumbavoor while Mr M. Swaraj, MLA, opened the fest at Cusat. Mr Eldho Abraham, MLA, Mr Sajad Chemmukkan and Mr Sreejesh were also present. Youth Congress leaders Titto Antony, Tibin Devassy and K. Sethuraj spoke. The SFI also organised beef fests at Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady town, UC College, Aluva, Kongorpilly in Alangad, Statue Junction, Tripunithura, Koothattukulam, Kothamangalam, Kolancherry Town, Piravom, Kacherithaazham in Muvattupuzha and Puliyanam at Nedumbassery.
