Kerala Motor Vehicles Department to tighten safety norms
KOZHIKODE: As the school reopening is nearing, the Motor Vehicles Department and the police are joining hands to ensure the safety of students by launching pre-monsoon school vehicle check-up here on May 28 and 29. An awareness programme for the school bus/van employees will also be held.
The vehicles which are fit will get a sticker to be exhibited on the vehicles’ glass. Kozhikode RTO K. Premanandan said that the school authorities had supported the check-up. “Over 700 vehicles in the district will have to go through the check-up. Although we will allow only those vehicles which comply with the fitness criteria to carry children, some of them might have done their fitness test a few months back. This programme is to make sure that all such vehicles have gone through the inspection,” he said.
An awareness class on traffic rules will also be given to the bus employees during the programme. “The drivers for school buses/vans are experienced. However, we feel that refreshing the traffic rules and answering their queries would make the driving easier,” he added.
