Avinash has a criminal background, should not get bail: Viveka's daughter

HYDERABAD: Dr Suneetha Nareddy, daughter of slain leader Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, on Thursday told the Telangana High Court that YSRC Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy had a criminal background and faces attempt to murder charges.

Objecting to the MP’s plea for anticipatory bail, Suneetha through her senior counsels Sidharth Luthra and T. Swetcha submitted the 2019 election affidavit of Avinash Reddy, in which he had declared four criminal cases. Her counsels argued that all four complainants had been pacified with the influence of the party’s government in Andhra Pradesh.

“They managed SIT officials, who were investigation officers in the Vivekananda Reddy murder case. Even when the case was transferred to the CBI, they complained about the integrity of the officers,” Luthra said.

He said Avinash Reddy wanted the CBI to treat him like a house guest. “He is in a position... but it shall not be the ground for a bail,” he said.

Luthra pointed out that the evidence of Sk Dastagiri, an accused who had turned approver, and statements of Lakshmi, Inayatullah and driver Prasad, who cleaned the murder spot, indicated that Avinash Reddy, his father Bhaskar Reddy and Sivashankar Reddy were present at the spot, and had ordered the cleaning up of the bedroom and washroom in the victim’s house.

Earlier, T. Niranjan Reddy, senior counsel, appearing for Avinash Reddy said that when the CBI had supported bail to Dastagiri, how could it oppose the anticipatory bail plea of the MP on the basis of hearsay?

Niranjan Reddy said that Dastagiri in his first statement to the CBI had not mentioned Avinash Reddy, while in the second he had stated that Gangi Reddy had assured him that Avinash Reddy would take care of things.

“Dastagiri never met Avinash Reddy,” he said. Further, Dastagiri stayed with the CBI in New Delhi for two months during which period he was lured into giving evidence against others, Niranjan Reddy said.

Justice K. Surender adjourned the hearing to Friday.
