Fisheries minister Mercykutty Amma announces cleanliness plan for coast

Health issues of coastal areas would be also addressed by the project.

Thiruvananthapuram: Fisheries minister Mercykutty Amma said that the government will soon launch a Rs 13,000-crore project for the cleaning works of the coastal areas. She told the Assembly during the question hour on Thursday that the project was aimed at solving the serious issues related to cleanliness and hygiene being faced by the coastal areas. Health issues of coastal areas would be also addressed by the project. The water bodies, including sea, are becoming waste dumping places and the minister promised strict action against it. Ms. Mercykuttiyamma also said the government would initiate various steps to curb exploitation of marine resources as there was an alarming decline of marine resources in the state.
