Police inspector collapses while on duty, dies
Chennai: A police inspector collapsed on early Tuesday morning while making security arrangements for the upcoming Chennai Defence Expo on East Coast Road at Thiruvidanthai.
The high profile event scheduled from April 11 to 14 is to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the event has put high pressure on the local and neigbouring district police officers.
The victim C. Subbiah from Tiruvallur district was deployed at the venue as part of the security arrangement and he was earlier serving with the Tiruvallir mobile check post unit. On seeing the inspector collapsing, the local police personnel rushed him to the nearby Chengalpet government hospital only to be declared as brought dead die to massive cardiac arrest.
Police sources maintained that the inspector was suffering from night shifts and was deprived of sleep. Whenever there is a VVIP visit to Chennai, the working hours extend for more than 14 hours, sources said adding that stress was part of their duty.
Deceased Subhiah is a native of Tenkasi and was staying at the police quarters in Adyar. He is survived by a wife and two sons. Top police officials took arrangements to sent the body to his native town for last rites and the incident invoked a sense of ordeal among the police serving at the defence expo venue.
