Remove all encroachments in Munnar: V S Achuthanandan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran CPM leader and chairman of administrative reforms commission V.S. Achuthanandan on Monday demanded the removal of all encroachments in Munnar. In a statement here the veteran leader said that encroachments had mushroomed all over in the famous hill station. He said the government should adopt a zero tolerance policy towards such violations.
The former chief minister expressed satisfaction over the functioning of Sub Collector Sreeram Venkatarraman. On the statement made by local MLA S Rajendran that there was no problem in Idukki district till the sub collector arrived in the scene, Achuthanandan said such statements were nothing but blabbering. His criticism comes in the wake of allegations that the CPM had encroached 10 acres of land in Munnar town and converted into a party village.
Mr Achuthanadnan lashed out at opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala for describing the Munnar Operations carried out during his tenure in 2007 as "big failure." The veteran leader said Chennithala was making baseless statements. He said massive encroachments were removed and the thousands of acres of government land were retrieved from illegal occupants. The entire operation as a big success.
