CRPF to probe disrespect to jawan's body
ALAPPUZHA: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday assured Lok Sabha MP K C Venugopal that CRPF would hold an enquiry into the alleged disrespect shown by the paramilitary force to the body of one of its jawans, who died in Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh.
The Alappuzha MP said that the body of Anil, hailing from Harippad in the district, “was treated with utmost disrespect by CRPF authorities.” “Anil, a native of Chingoli panchayat, died in a drowning accident on Thursday at Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh. But when the body reached Alappuzha, it was found naked, not embalmed and covered in a plastic sheet,” he said.
Meanwhile, the body of CRPF jawan kept in the morgue of Taluk Hospital after relatives refused to receive alleging disrespect, was laid to rest Orthodox Church, Karthikapally on Sunday. Haripad police said the relatives received the body after they were assured of an investigation.
"The meeting held in the presence of district collector in Haripad was attended by the relatives. Following this, they received the body by 11 am. No postmortem was performed. Anil was serving in Naxal-affected areas. So the body might have taken much time to get it packed correctly. We learnt it was kept more than 15 hours waiting to be taken off at Mumbai airport," police said.
Relatives say they got information that he was drowned on Thursday. "The body was brought home on Saturday without embalming. Instead, the decomposed body was daubed with camphor pieces." Anil leaves wife Linimol and daughter Alsa.
