Telangana High Court issued notices to Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar
HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Friday issued notice to minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, who is chairman of Mamata Educational Society and Mamata Medical College, in a contempt of court case related to the non-refunding of the extra fee collected from students.
In 2016, the Telangana government had increased the tuition fee in medical and dental colleges without getting approval from the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC), via government order (GO) 29 of May 2
In 2022, a division bench of the High Court annulled the GO that had hiked the fee and directed colleges to return the extra fee that they had collected in accordance with the TAFRC recommendations for the 2016-2019 block period. The division bench further ordered all medical and dental colleges to return the original education and course completion certificates to PG doctors as soon as possible. The High Court ordered the institutions to refund any extra fees paid by students within 30 days of the order's date.
As Mamatha Medical College had not refunded the extra fee, some students filed a contempt case. On Friday, the High Court issued notices to College chairman Ajay Kumar and adjourned the hearing to April 17.
