Reports of residues like carbofuran, a pesticide, has been found in products.
Hyderabad: Export of pepper and chillies from India to the European Union is strictly monitored as there have been reports of residues like carbofuran, a pesticide, in products.
Chillies and peppers have been added in the high-risk list due to the residue content at 10 per cent. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority has issued a warning to all stockist and traders.
A senior trader, on condition of anonymity, said, “There is adulteration in chilli products. Hence, there is a high risk of rejection. For this reason, most companies are monitoring the growth of chillies from the farm-level to deal with adulteration.” Indian for Research on International Economic Relations has also warned exporters.
