Probe sought into land sale at Kerala Law Academy Law College
Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC media cell member B.R.M Shafeer has demanded a Vigilance probe into the alleged fraudulent transfer of Law Academy trust land near the Secretariat to Heather Constructions by academy chairman N. Narayanan Nair and principal Lakshmi Nair. The Law Academy Trust, comprising the Chief Minister and Education minister, had neither been constituted nor summoned for the last two years. Instead, decisions were taken by Dr Nair and his daughter, Ms Lakshmi Nair.
A copy of the joint venture agreement between the academy and Heather Constructions presented at the press meet stated that the “ builder (Heather) will be at the liberty to sell, transfer and mortgage 55 percent of the plinth area as well as undivided share of land and the common area to prospective buyers.” Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s approval for the releasing property for commercial use was not obtained and no auditing had taken place for two years, which was a breach of the Charitable Societies Act, alleged Mr Shafeer.
Will stay away if father asks me to, says Lakshmi Nair
Kerala Law Academy Law College Principal Lakshmi Nair has said she was prepared to stay away from the case if her father Dr N Narayanan Nair, who is the director of the college, asked her to do so. Meanwhile, Kerala Law Academy Law College appointed a five-member panel to solve the issues related to the college. The committee does not have Principal Lakshmy Nair in it.
The governing body of the college on Friday appointed a committee consisting of Advocate K Ayyappan Pilla, Director Dr N Narayanan Nair, Advocate T.K. Sreenarayana Das, Advocate Nagaraj Narayanan and Advocate Rajith Kumar as members. Ms Nair while speaking to a news channel said she would not resign from the post of Principal under any circumstances. “The Government also does not have the power to remove me as it is a private college,” she said.
