Kozhikode corporation council approves hike in property tax
KOZHIKODE: The corporation council on Friday approved the hike in property tax with retrospective effect from April 1, 2013 based on the proposal by the finance standing committee. The revision is based on the state government’s new tax rate. According to the proposal, the property tax for residential building is Rs 14 per square metre. The committee also proposed Rs 90 per square metre for commercial buildings within 100 square metres and Rs 105 for commercial buildings of more than 100 square metres.
The rate is Rs 90 for the supermarkets within 200 square metres and Rs 150 per square metre for the supermarkets and malls of more than 200 square metres. The rate is Rs 40 for other industry purposes, Rs 75 for office buildings, Rs 16 for educational institutions, Rs 20 for hospitals and Rs 500 for mobile towers.
Social Council on waste management
A special council meeting of the corporation approved a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of '221.28 crore for solid waste management project for the next financial year. Setting up a '200 crore gassification project to produce electricity from non-degradable waste is the highlight of the DPR. The civic body will submit the project to the Suchitwa Mission to implement it under the Swachh Bharath Mission.
Jagratha Samithis to tackle drug abuse
A meeting of the excise officials with the corporation councillors on Friday decided to form ward-level Jagratha Samithis for the effective execution of the Vimukti project, the anti-narcotics campaign launched by the state government to reduce drug abuse. The project will be launched in the district in February.
