CPI condemns police action on AISF activists
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state executive has sought government intervention to resolve the ongoing agitation of the law academy law college students. The state executive which met here discussed the agitation and criticised the manner in which the police had handled the AISF agitation. CPI leaders’ condemned the police action against the students who were resorting to peaceful agitation demanding justice.
A section of leaders accused the police of going soft on the complaints registered by the students against the management. They demanded that proper case should be registered against the management under sections of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. The CPI executive felt that the ongoing agitation should be intensified further till principal Lakshmi Nair resigned. It said if there is any irregularities in the allotment of land to the Law Academy than it should be rectified. However the first priority should be to resolve the issues of the students.
The committee said that CPI could not be held accountable for allotting the land to Law Academy. Even though the land was granted in 1968 during the time of C. Achutha Menon, it was actually assigned during the tenure of K. Karunakaran in 1985. CPI's stand in the Law College issue is diametrically opposite to the CPM which has steered clear of the agitation. Meanwhile, CPI expressed concern over the RSS-BJP agenda to unleash violence in the state.
