KTR reviews water board works, bats for more STPs
Hyderabad: Municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) minister K.T. Rama Rao on Monday conducted a detailed review of various initiatives taken up by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), including construction of new sewage treatment plants (STPs), free drinking water supply scheme and other infrastructure development works.
During the meeting, the minister instructed the officials to ensure the STPs were constructed within the stipulated time period. He asked water officials to convert the areas surrounding STPs into beautiful gardens so that the residents in the vicinity could use it. Rama Rao asked officials to focus on constructing STPs on the city outskirts beyond the outer ring road (ORR) as the city was expanding. He also asked them to take up construction of more STPs on the suburbs, wherever viable.
The MA&UD minister asked the officials to lay emphasis on the ring main project and complete it within a year's time. The ring main project taken up by the water board is running at snail’s pace. Out of the 158-kms inter-connected water line grid planned, the water board has completed only 9-kms pipeline works at Muthangi-Kokapet.
This apart, the minister also reviewed various infrastructure projects executed in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. He also enquired about the ground level implementation of TS-bPASS in the city.
