Chennai: Two hospitalised in road mishap succumb to injuries

The occupants had come from Tiruvannamalai to attend a function in Tambaram.

Chennai: Two of the four occupants of a car, which fell from a flyover in Irumbuliyur near Tambaram early Monday morning, succumbed to injuries at the Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Jeeva (25) and Dinesh (26). Jeeva is a resident of Sowcarpet and works as a teacher in Rajasthan while Dinesh is a native of Tiruvannamalai. The other two occupants of the car, Karthik (24) and Nagaraj (24), are still being treated under critical condition at the hospital, police said.

They were returning home when the accident happened around 1.30 am on Monday. Police said that Karthik who was driving the car lost control and first rammed into the parapet wall of the flyover after which the car fell from a height of 30 feet. Most of the car was mangled in the accident, despite which the occupants of the car- Jeeva, Dinesh and Kanagaraj survived with injuries then.

Locals along with the help of Chromepet Traffic investigation wing rushed to the scene and moved them to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
Chromepet traffic investigation wing police registered a case under the IPC Section 304 (a) (death caused due to negligent driving) and further investigations are on.
