Kerala police stations to now hold yoga sessions from 2017
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police have unveiled a plan to include yoga sessions for their personnel in all police stations from January 1, 2017 with an aim to inculcate a healthy routine.
According to a The News Minute report, Kerala DGP Loknath Behera, has given instructions to all the Superintendent of Police (SPs) to make sure that they conduct yoga session in their areas of responsibility daily, from New Year day onwards.
However, Kannur SP Sanjay Kumar said that even though the yoga sessions would do good to the officers, who face constant pressure during work, it is no compulsion. Kumar also clarified that the DGP’s order is only aimed at helping the officials and no hard and fast rule has been established.
“The yoga session will be held in the mornings at around 6.30/7 am. Officers who live close by or at the police quarters will not have issues in reporting for the session. Those who are not able to do so owing to practical difficulties should be allowed to practise yoga in the comfort of their homes,” he said.
SP Harishankar from Pathanamthitta said that the order could be modified to avoid any kind of difficulties, especially for the female police officers, as they may find it tedious to be part of the yoga sessions daily.
“The current order could be modified to make it a weekly session for them at least. We did offer such a suggestion from our side, but not in writing," he said.
