Christmas cheer for liquor sales in Thrissur
Thrissur: Supermarkets opened recently by the Kerala State Beverages Corporation and Consumerfed in Thrissur witnessed brisk sales this Christmas. While the Consumerfed supermarket on Sankarayya Road recorded a turnover of nearly Rs 37 lakh, the Bevco supermarket near Sakthan Thampuran Bus Stand sold liquor worth nearly Rs 35 lakh. Bevco officials said the state government had already announced the opening of more such supermarkets to end long queues before its outlets and the seasonal trend was encouraging.
Neither the demonetization had dampened the spirit in the district, though Bevco is yet to release officials figures for Christmas sales. It matched the previous year's' sales or even slightly increased. The Consumerfed supermarket, which sells bottles priced more than Rs 500, witnessed more rush than the nearby ordinary outlet.
