KSRTC heavy hand costs traders

Despite repeated representations, KSRTC has not removed the buses or cleaned the area that falls under its jurisdiction.

Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC employees have allegedly been causing a public nuisance for the past several months by parking five unused buses at the entrance of the Thampanoor bus stand attracting garbage to the area, say local traders. The buses and their surroundings are filthy threatening the business of around 35 shops and several lodges in the vicinity. Despite repeated representations, KSRTC has not removed the buses or cleaned the area that falls under its jurisdiction. This was allegedly an act of vengeance against shopkeepers as they opposed a new wall that would separate their premises from the bus stand leading to a loss of business.

This was at a time when KSRTC was finding it hard to find occupants for its shopping complex. The traders association has already given a representation to the State Human Rights Commission. “The buses are parked close to Neyyatinkara-Kailiyikkavila bus stop beside the newly built terminal. The newly built terminal caters to long distance services. For the short distance services there are only three platforms outside the terminal. So all buses are stacked on platform number 1 where Kaliyikkavola- bound buses are parked,” said Ajith Madhusoodhanan, a student and regular commuter.

KSRTC higher officials said they would look into it. Revenue officials said that arrangements would be made to remove the buses or clean the area. “There are eateries close to this spot and filth repels customers. Apart from this, accidents can be caused to commuters as they have to negotiate their way around the filth in the area with heavy pedestrian as well as vehicular traffic,” commuters said.
