Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described Fidel Castro as great leader not just of Cuban communist party but also the entire international communist movement. In a condolence message, the chief minister said Castro was one of the main inspirations for the fight against imperialism in every part of the world. He was a great personality who could take on the US Imperialist right at its door steps and could prove that the socialist system could overcome the Capitalist challenge.
Pinarayi said the world will always remember Castro as the legend of international revolutionary movement. He will always be respected as one of the symbols of resistance against imperialism. The socialist administration that put in place during his tenure as President of Cuba would always be remembered by the world . "I salute the undying memory of Fidel Castro," he said. V. S. Achuthanandan said in the demise of Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro, the shining star of revolutionary movement had set in. For half a century he led the Cuban people and inspired liberation struggles the world over.
Over the last five decades he could bring in amazing development in health and social sectors. He defeated all moves of US imperialism against the Cuban people. At a time when imperialism is raising its head in various forms, the death of Castro is a big loss . Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the life and works of Fidel will continue to give direction in the fight against imperialism. He was a leader in all respect as a revolutionary and administrator who ruled Cuba for nearly 50 years.
As a mark of respect to the late Cuban leader, the party declared a three day mourning. Flags in all party offices will fly at half mast during this period. The party has appealed all committees of the party and class and mass organisations to organise condolence meetings. CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the death of Fidel had created a big void. He played a major role while leading the Non Alignment Movement. Castro was the source of inspiration for the liberation struggles of Latin american countries.
