KARIMNAGAR: The Congress party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra aims at defeating the political and religious forces trying to divide the nation in the name of castes and religions and preserve the unity of the nation, said senior leader and MLC T Jeevan Reddy here on Wednesday.
Releasing the poster of the Yatra in Jagtial district, Jeevan Reddy said Indira Gandhi strove hard for the unity of the nation. Rajiv Gandhi took up the Sadbavana Yatra to stop the forces dividing the people in the name of castes and religions. Now, Rahul Gandhi has taken up a Yatra to give a fitting reply to communal forces, he said.
“The BJP government betrayed the unemployed youth by ignoring its promise of giving 2 crore jobs to them every year. It had also promised to deposit `15 lakh each in the bank accounts of the poor people and forgot about it. People are facing a lot of problems with the rise in prices of essentials under the BJP rule,” he added.
He noted that the UPA government introduced the MGNREGS to help the poor in rural areas, the Food Security Act to feed the poor and the Right to Information Act for giving good governance. “The NDA government is trying to scuttle such schemes,” he alleged.
He said that the TRS party supported the BJP from 2014 to 2020. It also supported the Triple Talaq bill. “As the people have lost their faith in the TRS party, it is trying to gain mileage by blaming the BJP and acting against the BJP government,” he said.
Congress district president Adluri Laxman, block Congress president Nannaiah, women wing district president Vijaya Laxmi, Metpally ZPTC Srinivas Reddy, Sirazuddin, Rajendar, Devander Reddy, Jagadishwar, Radha Kishan and Vijay were present.
