Boardwalk along Tank Bund remains a pipedream
HYDERABAD: The plan of the HMDA to construct a boardwalk along the shoreline of Hussainsagar connecting Lumbini Park, Boats Club, Sagar (Kaka) Park on Hyderabad side and Buddha Bhavan in Secunderabad is likely to be shelved.
The HMDA had appointed a consultant for the project two years ago but the firm is seeking more time to submit designs. Considering this delay, budget constraints and the topography, the project may be dropped altogether.
The boardwalk had been proposed as part of Tank Bund Beautification Project taken up three years ago on instructions of urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao.
As part of this, the HMDA did take up beautification works on either side of Tank Bund road. Decades-old slabs have been replaced with new flamed granite. Specially designed cast iron railing, grills and aligned designer lampposts have been set up. Street furniture, kiosks, and decorative lighting are also being set up for catering to needs of people visiting the place.
If the boardwalk is still taken up, its cost will escalate, an HMDA official said on condition of anonymity.
